buttons on the deviceThe image to the left shows the different buttons that can be found on an iPad. These terms will be used throughout these pages so it is important that you can use the jargon. There will be numerous references to the Home button which is the large button at the bottom of the iPad with a square on it.

moving appsYou can move icons to different locations on the screen or move them to a new screen by following the instructions to the left. Touching items until they wiggle allows you to do a number of things, as explained below. You can also move icons to the quick launch bar at the bottom of the screen so that you have access from any screen. Make sure to press the Home button to stop the wiggle.
|
creating foldersYou can create folders to organize your programs. To do this, touch and hold an icon until it starts to wiggle, then drag it on top of an icon that will be in the same folder. A folder will be created, showing the two icons in it. A name will also be assigned which you can change. To add additional icons to that folder, touch and hold an icon to make them wiggle (if they are not already doing so) and drag that icon on top of the folder already created. Pres the Home button to stop the wiggle.

deleting appsAs you work with your iPad you will most likely install a number of apps just to try them out. Once you decide that you do not want to keep a program, you can delete it simply by touching and holding an icon until it starts to wiggle. Then, if there is an X at the top-left corner, touch the X - you will be propted to make sure you want to delete the program - click the Delete button. If the program does not have an X on the top-left corner, you cannot delete it (any program that came with the iPad).

hidden keysThere are a number of hidden keys on the onscreen keyboard. For example, rather than having to go to the second screen of the keyboard every time you want to type an apostrophe just tap and hold on the ! key and a hidden apostrophe option will appear - then just slide your finger up to access it. To see other hidden keyboard options, CLICK HERE.

screen shotIt is actually quite easy to take an iPad screenshot. Simply hold down the iPad home button and the Sleep/Wake button at the same time. You will see a flash on your screen signalling the iPad's screen was captured. The picture will show up in the Photo app. Not sure where these buttons are located? Refer to the diagram above for the locations.

Switching between appsInstead of closing and then opening another app, you can switch between apps by double-clicking on the home button (see image above). This will pull up a list of recently used apps. You can scroll through this and select another app instead of closing an app each time you need to open another one.
